Who we are

xstitchingman.com is the online home of Brett Harper, a British Columbia-based fine art cross-stitch artist. Our website address is xstitchingman.com.

We take your privacy seriously — here’s exactly what we collect, why, and what we do with it.

Comments

If you leave a comment on the site, we collect the information you enter in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us detect and filter spam.

Your email address may be converted into an anonymised hash and shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you use a profile picture. You can read Gravatar’s privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy. If your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible publicly alongside it.

Media

If you upload images to the site, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS) in those files. Other visitors are able to download images from the site and extract any location information embedded within them.

Cookies

We use cookies to make your experience smoother. Here’s what that means in practice:

Comments — If you leave a comment, you can opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies so you don’t have to fill them in again next time. These cookies last for one year.

Login — When you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and disappears when you close your browser. If you log in, additional cookies save your login details and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; display cookies last one year. Choosing “Remember Me” extends your login to two weeks. Logging out removes all login cookies.

Editing — If you publish or edit content on the site, a cookie records the ID of that post. It holds no personal data and expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages on this site include embedded content from other platforms — videos, images, articles, and so on. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that external site directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, and track your interaction with their content — particularly if you’re logged into an account on their platform.

Who we share your data with

We don’t sell your data. Ever. The only instance where your IP address is shared externally is when you request a password reset — your IP is included in that reset email as a security measure. Visitor comments may also be run through an automated spam detection service.

How long we retain your data

Comments and their associated metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognise and automatically approve follow-up comments without holding them in a queue.

If you create an account on the site, your profile information is stored for as long as your account is active. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time — the only exception is your username, which cannot be changed. Site administrators can also view and edit account information.

What rights you have over your data

You’re in control. If you have an account or have left a comment on this site, you can request a full export of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we delete it entirely. The only exception is data we’re legally required to retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

To make a request, get in touch via the Contact page.

Where your data is sent

xstitchingman.com is operated from British Columbia, Canada. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. By using this site, you acknowledge that your data may be processed in accordance with this policy.
